Lydia Benitez, PharmD, BCOP

2022 Basic Science and Clinical Research Literature Award

This award recognizes an author who has written an important scientific article describing hematology/oncology basic science and/or translational research or clinical trials evaluating drug efficacy and/or safety.

Dr. Lydia Benitez is a Hematology/Oncology pharmacy specialist at Michigan Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. She currently serves as the adult leukemia clinic specialist. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2010 and her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2014 from the University of Michigan. She went on to complete a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY-2 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Residency at University of Michigan. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Benitez plays an active role in the education of pharmacy students and residents. Her research interests include the appropriate use of new medications in the leukemia, building a framework for oncology stewardship, and the treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients.
