2022 New Practitioner Award

The HOPA New Practitioner Award recognizes a HOPA member early in their career who has made a significant contribution to developing or supporting clinical hematology/oncology pharmacy services.

Kathryn Maples is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Multiple Myeloma at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She completed her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia in 2015, and then completed her PGY1 acute care and PGY2 oncology residencies at VCU Health before becoming a clinical specialist in 2017. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, Dr. Maples provides daily clinical support to the myeloma team, performs comprehensive patient and nursing education, manages anticancer therapy, and conducts research. In addition, she also contributes to the myeloma clinical trials team by reviewing protocols and developing pharmacy orders. She has a number of publications and presentations on multiple myeloma, pharmacy practice, and supportive care for a variety of audiences. She is an active member of HOPA and ASTCT, a preceptor for PGY1 and PGY2 residents, as well as a preceptor for three schools of pharmacy. Her professional interests include clinical research in multiple myeloma, cellular therapy, and survivorship support.
