George Carro, RPh, MS, BCOP

2019 Award of Excellence

This Award of Excellence recognizes a member who has made a significant, sustained contribution to or provided excellent leadership in improving or supporting hematology/oncology pharmacy.

George Carro, RPh, MS, BCOP, currently serves as the Senior Director of Oncology Pharmacy Services and the PGY2 Oncology Residency Director at the NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, IL. He graduated from the University of IL at Chicago with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy and earned a Master in Science degree at DePaul University. George received his board certification in oncology pharmacy (BCOP) in 1999. He developed a comprehensive oncology pharmacy program at the Kellogg Cancer Centers (KCC), which are ambulatory cancer clinics located in Chicago’s northshore suburbs. George also started an ASHP-accredited PGY2 oncology pharmacy residency program; the program is in its 20th consecutive year. He has served as pharmacy chair and co-chair for the ECOG pharmacy committee, and completed the ASCO quality training program. George is active in professional organizations including ASCO, ASHP and served on many HOPA committees as well as the HOPA board of directors from 2013-2016. Making sure that every patient knows that a pharmacist has been involved with his/her care has been a main priority in George’s career.
