Seeking Patient Panelists to Share Their Perspectives

The Panel gives patients and survivors who have been impacted by cancer or blood diseases an opportunity to share their perspectives, which may influence HOPA’s programming, initiatives, policies, and publications. Adult patients of all ages, stages in therapy, and cancer/disease types may apply.

All applications are due by Friday, May 20th. Click here to apply!

Developing the Panel with Your Support

As a HOPA member, your support is instrumental in determining the quality of the Patient Advisory Panel. That is why we’re asking you to review your list of patients, determine if you know individuals that meet the Panel criteria, and ask them to apply for the Panel!

We’ve Made Reaching Out to Potential Panelists Easy!

To help guide your conversation, the POC has developed a Patient Advisory Panel Flyer to share with your patient contacts. As a quick guide, it provides an overview of:

  • What’s being asked on Panelists in terms of sharing their individual story
  • The value of individual participation and the value of the Panel’s collective knowledge
  • The time commitment required

Tip: To mitigate any concerns of a long application process, please inform your patients that there are less than 15 questions. (One way to encourage their participation is to show them a copy of the application.)

Applications are due Friday, May 20th!

We appreciate your support! Please reach out to your patient contacts soon, in order to provide them ample time to submit their application!

HOPA Patient Advisory Panel Members – 2021-2022

HOPA’s Patient Outreach Committee (POC) is pleased to announce the first-ever HOPA Patient Advisory Panel. Throughout their term, the Panel will be charged to review HOPA’s programming, initiatives, policies, and publications to ensure these resources meet the needs of their primary audiences and provide a patient perspective.

HOPA is grateful to the Panel, which consists of patients and/or survivors who have been impacted by cancer and blood diseases. Please read their biographies for a deeper (and often personal) reason for their selection as HOPA Patient Advisory Panelists.

In Memoriam

Thomas Henry III, who served on the HOPA Patient Advisory Panel, passed away in February of 2022. In addition to being a CLL patient, Thomas was a Registered Pharmacist with more than 40 years of experience. Since 2008, he had served in seventeen health systems on an interim basis as the Director of Pharmacy or Chief Pharmacy Officer.

Thomas brought a unique perspective to the Patient Advisory Panel as both a cancer patient and pharmacy professional. We are grateful for Thomas's service with HOPA and are proud of the impact he made throughout his life. Read more about Thomas’s life.

Patient Advocacy Town Hall – A Night of Patient Advocacy

HOPA’s 2021 Annual Conference included a session with representatives from six cancer patient advocacy organizations. The goal of the session was to better educate HOPA members about the opportunities that exist within patient advocacy organizations in order to better inform their patient care. During the session, the representatives spoke about what their organizations offer patients, caregivers, and survivors in the areas of creating community, unique tools & resources, and financial & emotional support.
